India, Russia sign deal for upgrade to warships’ radar

New Delhi: India today signed a deal with Russia for upgrading and modernising its Delhi-class of warships’ air defence radars and missile systems.

The contract between India’s Ministry of Defence and Russian Federation’s JSC Rosoboronexport was signed here for the modernisation of ‘Air Defence Complex Kashmir and Radar Fregat MAE’ on P-15 warships, an official statement said.

The modernisation of the radar and missile systems would substantially enhance the air defence capability of the Delhi-class of three Destroyers.

As part of the scope of work under modernisation, a major overhaul and refurbishment of subsystems would be undertaken in India.

Additionally, manufacturing of critical hardware would also be undertaken in partnership with the Indian industry.
