
New Delhi: India has tested indigenously developed air-to-air missile Astra successfully yesterday off the coast of Odisha into the Bay of Bengal.
The missile was launched from an Indian Air Force‘s Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft as a part of user trials, a Ministry of Defence statement said.
The live aerial target was engaged accurately demonstrating the capability of the first indigenous air-to-air missile, the statement said.
“The mission profile was executed in a text book manner.”

Various radars, Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and sensors tracked the missile and confirmed its engagement with target.
India’s defence minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force teams for the successful test.
