
New Delhi: Dispelling all speculations and rumours in the corridors of the Ministry of Defence, India today appointed V. L. Kantha Rao, an Indian administrative service officer, as the next Director General (Acquisition) in the defence ministry.

Rao was working as an Additional Secretary in the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence before his appointment as DG (Acquisition) was confirmed by an order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
As Director General (Acquisition), Rao will supervise all Capital Procurement of the Indian armed forces through the Acquisition Wing of the defence ministry.


The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet also named Rao’s successor in the Department of Defence Production. Sanjay Jaju, who was hitherto Joint Secretary in the same department, has been promoted as Additional Secretary after his recent empaneling for the post.
Rao is a Madhya Pradesh cadre officer of the Indian Administrative Service‘s batch of 1992. Jaju too comes from the same batch of IAS officers, but is from the Telangana cadre and is junior to Rao in service.
