New Delhi: India‘s leading engineering, procurement and construction projects, manufacturing, defence and services conglomerate Larsen & Toubro‘s (L&T’s) defence arm was today awarded the coveted ‘Green Channel‘ status for major naval weapon delivery systems.

The Ministry of Defence‘s (MoD’s) Directorate General Quality Assurance (DGQA) accorded the status to L&T Defence after stringent audits of its production facilities, quality systems, and products, carried out by the DGQA, according to a company statement here.

The grant of Green Channel certificate to a firm provides deemed registration status, waiver of pre-dispatch inspection and acceptance of stores under supplying firm’s guarantee or warranty against the contracts concluded by various procurement agencies under MoD.

DGQA’s Additional Director General and Head of Naval Quality Assurance Rear Admiral Atul Khanna awarded the ‘Green Channel’ status to an L&T Defence team in the presence the company’s whole time director (defence and smart technologies) and board member Jayant Damodar Patil.

BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Dr Sudhir Kumar Mishra was among the senior government officials, who witnessed the certificate award ceremony.

On the occasion, Rear Admiral Khanna said the grant of Green Channel certificate reposed their trust in L&T Defence and applauded its journey of 25 years of indigenising the platform specific systems for naval vessels. He encouraged L&T to continue enhancing quality standards and to elevate dialogue with naval quality assurance agencies.

“We are proud to receive the Green Channel certification, especially on the fiftieth Vijay Divas (India’s 1971 war victory that created Bangladesh out of Pakistan),” Patil said.

“L&T has been associated with the armed forces for over the last three and a half decades, in providing cutting edge technology and high-quality systems. Team L&T will live up to this trust bestowed upon us, and our defence quality assurance will endeavor towards delivering flawless systems in a timely manner.”

The defence ministry had introduced the Green Channel policy in Mar. 2017 as part of the ‘Make in India‘ initiative. L&T holds the distinction of being the first private sector defence company to be granted this status for delivery of major systems.

L&T Valves, another group company of Larsen & Toubro, secured the coveted Green Channel certification from the defence ministry in Nov. 2019.
