India Navy signs deal for locally made torpedo decoy

New Delhi: The anti-submarine warfare capability of the Indian Navy received a major boost today with the conclusion of a contract for Advanced Torpedo Decoy SystemMaareech‘ capable of being fired from all front line warships.

Designed and Developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) and Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the anti-torpedo decoy system will be produced by the state-run Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

The prototype of the system installed onboard a nominated naval platform had successfully completed all user evaluation trials and demonstrated the features as per the Naval Staff Qualification Requirements, a Ministry of Defence statement said.
